A Day At Chiropractors Office
April 10, 2009
Have you ever wondered what it’s like to go to the chiropractor? winter of 2004 I found out.
Back in 1986 I had a very bad car crash. In theaccident I broke my back and my neck. It was really bad however, I recovered somewhat and got mobile.
I was able to resume most of the activities I did before the crash, well at least until the year 2001.
I can’t explain why, for some undiscovered reason I had a retrogression and had to undergo lower back surgery.
All went well. except I had lost 30% flexibility in my neck and back. I was going through physical therapy but it was not really helping very much. So my Doctor told me suggested that I go to a Chiropractor’s. My doctor didn’t call them chiropractor though; he called them bone and joint manipulators. The Dr. had his secretary set up the chiropractic meeting for me.
A few weeks later I found myself in the lobby of a nice clean Chiropractor’s office. This was my first time and I didn’t know what to expect. I was apprehensive about the whole ordeal.
I was in chronic pain and I really didn’t want anybody bending and folding me in any way shape or form. So as you can image how cranky I was when I went to the receptionist’s window. “Can I help you”, the slender blond haired older women from behind the glassqueried in a pleasant and friendly voice.
I was really trying not to sound crabby as I shouted out, yes I’m here to see the Dr.; I mean bone and joint manipulator. She smiled and ask me to fill out a few insurance form, then said told me to please have a seat.
It seemed like an hour or two but finally a nurse came out and called me. I was half way into a nod by that time and I didn’t’ hear her the first time. After a moment the nurse announced my name. I woke up and answered, “I’m here”. Follow me please she said as she turned and headed toward the examining rooms in the back of the clinic. I go up and followed her to a small room that had a small medical table in the center and a few doctor looking things on a small table on the right side. Please sit down and the Dr. will be with you in a minute the nurse told me then she went away.
Ten minutes later the chiropractor came in. “Hello, I’m Dr. Sheppered” he introduced. “Your records show that your having a bit of a lower back problem.” Before I could say a word he told me to lie down on my stomach on the table. I did, and without saying a word he started to pull bend and twist me into positions I didn’t even know I could get into.
All in all I was there about thirty minutes, although it felt like forever I really didn’t’ feel any better, as a matter of a fact I felt worse. However,I was back there in two weeks ready and willing to go through the torture again.
This visit to the chiropractor was the same as the last. Again I didn’t feel any better. I didn’t feel any better.
The next time I visited the chiropractor told me that if I was not getting better by then that I probably was not going to. I was amazed with his truthfulness. Anyone else would have just kept making appointments and receiving that insurance money. Even though I didn’t benefit from my visits to a chiropractor please don’t think you won’t. I would advise that you see a Dr. if you have incapacitating pain and if he refers you to a chiropractor, go. Chiropractors know what they are doing and can help you. you.
